Basic and Advanced Obedience Training

The Basic Obedience 4 Week Program ($700) includes four private lessons covering Come, Sit, Down, Place, Drop, Heel, and loose-leash walking. It also addresses unwanted behaviors such as jumping, counter surfing, and poor door manners. Training equipment listed for the program may include an e-collar, prong collar, and 15-foot leash where applicable.

The Basic & Advanced Obedience 8 Week Program ($1,100) builds on those foundations with advanced commands, work around greater distractions, extended-distance obedience, field-trip lessons, and off-leash recall when appropriate for the dog.

Training can improve leash manners, recall, and everyday control, which are especially useful in a community where dogs must remain confined, secured, or under reasonable control, as required by Salisbury Township ordinances.

Board and Train Programs

Board & Train programs provide an immersive format in which a dog stays with a professional trainer and works on obedience, manners, recall, and distractions throughout the program. Available options range from one to two weeks, and the appropriate program depends on the dog’s current skills, behavior, age, and training goals.

  • 1 Week Freedom Board & Train ($1,775): A one-week program covering recall, sit, place, loose-leash walking, greeting manners, door manners, meal manners, and work around practical distractions. The program lists a 1.5-hour owner turnover session, followed by additional heel and down lessons. Off-leash recall may be pursued when appropriate, but it is not guaranteed.
  • 10 Day On-Leash Board & Train ($2,300): Ten days of training covering on-leash recall, sit, down, place, drop, heel, unwanted behavior management, loose-leash walking, door manners, play, and recall around distractions. The program includes a 1.5-hour owner turnover session. Off-leash recall may be a goal when appropriate, but it is not guaranteed for every dog.
  • 2 Week Board & Train ($3,250): Two weeks of immersive training covering seven commands, loose-leash walking, greeting and door manners, play, and work around distractions. Heel is practiced on leash in public and off leash when applicable. Owners receive a two-to-three-hour turnover session and a mandatory one-hour follow-up lesson approximately two weeks later. Missing the required follow-up means giving up access to the included free refresher lessons.

Owner handoff, follow-up sessions, and refresher requirements vary by program. Ask the team what updates are provided during your dog’s stay and review the requirements of the selected package before enrolling.

Puppy Training and Development

Age-appropriate puppy training can begin soon after a puppy comes home, often at approximately eight weeks old. The first three months are a particularly important socialization period, during which puppies can begin having safe, positive experiences with different people, animals, sounds, surfaces, and environments.

Socialization should continue after this early period. Experiences should be introduced gradually without overwhelming the puppy, and owners should follow their veterinarian’s guidance regarding vaccination status and exposure to public areas.

  • Puppy Training Consultation ($100): A consultation designed to provide a foundation for basic obedience, offer house-training guidance, and answer questions about puppy behavior and training.
  • 10 Day Pawsitive Foundation Puppy Board & Train ($1,900): Designed for vaccinated puppies approximately 12 to 24 weeks old. Training covers sit, down, place, loose-leash walking, recall on a 15-foot leash, greeting manners, and socialization foundations. The trainer also helps establish a housebreaking and crate-training schedule for owners to continue at home, but housebreaking and crate-training results are not guaranteed.
  • Comprehensive Puppy To Adult Board & Train ($4,275): A two-phase program beginning with the 10-day puppy program when the puppy is approximately 12 to 24 weeks old. The dog returns for a complete two-week Board & Train between approximately eight months and 1.5 years old. The second phase covers formal obedience, distractions, manners, and off-leash recall when applicable. Free obedience refresher lessons are included for the life of the dog.
  • Online Puppy Training Course ($199): A self-paced course containing 24 video modules, eight worksheets, and approximately three hours of training content. Topics include potty training, crate training, confidence building, common puppy concerns, and basic commands taught using markers and rewards.

Specialized Behavior Programs

The Reactivity & Aggression Dog Training program ($1,300, nine private lessons) is designed for dogs experiencing aggression, reactivity, fear, underconfidence, or environmental anxiety.

The program begins with an in-depth evaluation of the dog’s triggers, confidence level, emotional patterns, and behavioral history. Early lessons focus on confidence building, emotional regulation, changing the dog’s perception of triggers, threshold management, structured desensitization, controlled exposure, and play-driven engagement.

Obedience is introduced after the dog becomes more emotionally stable and begins making better decisions. Results vary, and the program should not be presented as a guaranteed cure for aggression or reactivity. Muzzle training may also be required during the early portion of the program. Owners can review this guide on how to properly muzzle train an aggressive or reactive dog for additional information.

The Therapy Dog Preparation program ($1,100, eight private lessons) prepares dogs and handlers for therapy dog evaluation or testing. The first four lessons follow the Basic Obedience curriculum, while the remaining lessons focus on the requirements of the therapy organization or facility where the owner intends to volunteer.

Certification requirements vary. Owners should confirm which organization their intended facility accepts and ask during the consultation whether evaluation or certification through Therapy Pets Unlimited is currently available.

Tracking and Nose Work

Tracking and nose work programs give dogs and handlers an opportunity to develop scent-tracking skills through progressively more challenging environments.

  • Exploring Tracking ($525): Introduces basic tracking concepts, starts, motivation, line work, tracking commands, and article indication.
  • Beginner Tracking ($850): Progresses to longer tracks, road crossings, and more advanced trail work.
  • Beginner & Basic Urban Tracking ($1,200): Introduces street crossings and beginning urban tracking in different parks and locations.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dog Training in Salisbury Township

How quickly will I see results from dog training?

Training timelines vary by dog, program, behavior, and owner consistency. Private programs range from four to nine lessons, while Board & Train options last one to two weeks. These are program lengths, not guaranteed result timelines. Dogs with aggression, reactivity, fear, or anxiety may need continued practice and management after formal training ends.

Do you guarantee off-leash results for every dog?

Off-leash recall is provided only when appropriate for the individual dog and is not guaranteed for every dog. Results can vary based on temperament, fear responses, behavior history, health, readiness, and owner follow-through. The training team can discuss realistic off-leash goals and expectations during your free phone consultation.

What training methods do you use?

Off Leash K9 Training uses marker training and specializes in e-collar training when appropriate for the dog and selected program. Some packages may also include prong collars or 15-foot training lines. Rewards and play may be incorporated. Methods and tools depend on the dog’s temperament, behavior, training response, and package requirements.

Is my dog too old or too young for training?

Puppy training can begin soon after a puppy comes home, often around eight weeks old. Adult and senior dogs can also benefit from obedience or behavior training. The right program for an older dog depends on health, mobility, temperament, and behavior history. Owners of senior dogs or dogs with medical concerns should consult their veterinarian first.
