Board & Train Programs

Board & Train programs provide an immersive format in which a dog stays with a professional trainer and works on obedience, manners, recall, and distractions throughout the program. The appropriate option depends on the dog’s age, behavior, current skills, and training goals.

2 Week Board & Train
This two-week immersive program covers seven commands, loose-leash walking, greeting manners, door manners, play, and work around distractions. Heel is practiced on leash in public and off leash when applicable, while off-leash recall is included only when appropriate for the dog.

After training, owners receive a two-to-three-hour turnover session and a mandatory one-hour follow-up lesson approximately two weeks later. Missing the required follow-up means giving up access to the included free refresher lessons.

10 Day On-Leash Board & Train
This program covers on-leash recall, sit, down, place, drop, heel, loose-leash walking, unwanted behavior management, door manners, play, and recall around practical distractions. It includes a 1.5-hour owner turnover session. Off-leash recall may be a goal when appropriate, but it is not guaranteed for every dog.

1 Week Freedom Board & Train
This one-week program covers recall, sit, place, drop, loose-leash walking, greeting manners, door manners, meal manners, and work around practical distractions. It includes a 1.5-hour owner turnover session, followed by additional heel and down lessons. Off-leash recall may be pursued when appropriate, but it is not guaranteed.

Owner turnover sessions, follow-up lessons, and refresher requirements vary by program. Review the selected package and confirm its requirements before enrolling.

Specialized Training

Reactivity & Aggression Dog Training
This nine-lesson private program is designed for dogs experiencing aggression, reactivity, fear, underconfidence, or environmental anxiety.

The program begins with an in-depth evaluation of the dog’s triggers, confidence level, emotional patterns, and behavioral history. Early lessons focus on confidence building, emotional regulation, changing the dog’s perception of triggers, threshold management, structured desensitization, controlled exposure, and play-driven engagement.

Obedience is introduced after the dog becomes more emotionally stable and begins making better decisions. Results vary, and the program should not be presented as a guaranteed cure for aggression or reactivity. Muzzle training may also be required during the early part of the program.

Owners can review this guide on how to properly muzzle train an aggressive or reactive dog for additional information.

Therapy Dog Preparation
This eight-lesson program prepares dogs and handlers for therapy dog evaluation or testing. The first four lessons follow the Basic Obedience curriculum, while the remaining lessons focus on the requirements of the therapy organization or facility where the owner intends to volunteer.

Certification requirements vary. Owners should confirm which organization their intended facility accepts and ask during the consultation whether evaluation or certification through Therapy Pets Unlimited is currently available.

This program is designed for vaccinated puppies approximately 12 to 24 weeks old. Training covers sit, down, place, loose-leash walking, recall on a 15-foot leash, greeting manners, and socialization foundations.

The trainer also helps establish a housebreaking and crate-training schedule for owners to continue at home. Housebreaking and crate-training results are not guaranteed.

Comprehensive Puppy To Adult Board & Train
This two-phase program begins with the 10-day puppy program when the puppy is approximately 12 to 24 weeks old. The dog returns for a complete two-week Board & Train between approximately eight months and 1.5 years old.
